In the original release the age of the deceased male was incorrect. Joseph Dely of Muncie is 31 years old, not 21 years old as originally released.

Indianapolis, IN - This morning, at approximately 3:45 am., emergency responders were called to the scene of a serious crash on I-465 southbound at the 49 mile marker, near I-74 on the east side of Indianapolis. When first responders arrived they located two vehicles, one was a Jeep occupied by an adult male who was entrapped in the wreckage, he was unconscious and unresponsive. Despite life saving efforts by paramedics the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, a Chevrolet Malibu, was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. The crash closed all lanes of southbound I-465

Preliminary investigation determined both vehicles were southbound on I-465, the Chevrolet Malibu made contact with the left rear of the Jeep causing the Jeep to spin off the roadway and overturn several times. At this point of the investigation it is believed the driver of the Malibu was allegedly distracted by a cellular telephone prior to the crash. Tests for intoxication are pending.

The deceased driver of the Jeep was identified as 21 year old Joseph E. Dely of Muncie Indiana. The driver of the Malibu was 22 year old Teriyon Carter of Indianapolis.

The crash caused the southbound lanes of I-465 to be closed for an extended time while Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists investigated the circumstances of the crash and the wreckage was removed.

The investigation is still in the preliminary stages and the test results for impairment are not immediately available. There is no further information to release at this time.

ISP was assisted by the Indianapolis Fire Department, the Marion County Coroner's Office and Affordable Towing.
