Single Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Hebron Man

Crown Point- This morning, at approximately 9:10 a.m., the Indiana State Police responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle located on the entrance ramp from US 231 to southbound Interstate 65 in Crown Point, Indiana.

Prior to the Indiana State Police being notified of the crash, a work crew who was mowing the grass in the area located the motorcycle off the roadway and resting on its side. The work crew notified the Crown Point Police Department, and officers from the department responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers from the Crown Point Police Department located the motorcycle and the driver, who was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. At the request of the Crown Point Police Department, Troopers from the Indiana State Police Lowell Post were dispatched to the scene.

A preliminary crash investigation by Trooper William Stancy determined that the motorcycle, a gray 2003 Yamaha, was being operated by Robert J. Nolbertowicz Jr, 51, of Hebron, Indiana. While traveling south on the ramp from US-231 to I-65 southbound, the motorcycle ran off the roadway, rolled over, and came to a rest on its side. Mr. Nolbertowicz sustained fatal injuries during the crash.

Mr. Nolbertowicz was positively identified by the Lake County Coroner. Further investigation revealed Mr. Nolbertowicz had been reported as a missing person on May 11th through the Hammond Police Department. Mr. Nolbertowicz next of kin has been notified.

The date and time that the crash occurred is unknown at this time.

The ramp from US-231 to the southbound lanes of I-65 was closed for approximately two hours for a crash investigation.

Indiana State Police was assisted on the scene by the Crown Point Police Department, Hoosier Helpers, Area Towing, the Indiana State Police Lowell Crash Reconstruction Team, and the Lake County Coroner.

There is no further information to release at this time.
