Single Vehicle Crash Claims the Lives of a Carroll County Deputy and Jail Deputy

Clinton County – This morning, just after 1:30 a.m., Indiana State Police and Carroll County Sheriff's Department came upon a single-vehicle double fatal crash on State Road 26 near Washington Street in Sedalia, IN. Carroll County Sheriff's Department requested the Indiana State Police to investigate the crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Rossville Deputy Town Marshal attempted to conduct a traffic stop on State Road 26, but the vehicle failed to stop, and the Town Marshal requested assistance. After a few miles, the vehicle stopped on State Road 26 just east of County Road 200 East.

Deputy Noah Rainey was en route to assist the Rossville Deputy Town Marshal and driving an issued Carroll County Sheriff's Department Dodge Charger. Deputy Rainey was traveling eastbound on State Road 26 approaching Washington Street when for an unknown reason his vehicle left the south side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Other officers responding to the Rossville Deputy Town Marshal, came upon the crash and began to render medical aid. Despite lifesaving efforts, Deputy Rainey and his passenger, Jail Deputy Dane Northcutt, were pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. Notifications to both families have been made.

Deputy Rainey was on duty at the time of the crash. Jail Deputy Northcutt was on a ride-along but not on duty at the time of the crash. Both of them proudly served their community through the Sheriff's Department.

The Indiana State Police extends our heartfelt condolences to both of their families, friends, and the Carroll County Sheriff's Department.

Indiana State Police Lafayette Post was assisted on scene by Indiana State Police Peru Post Crash Reconstruction Team, Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton County Sheriff's Department, Delphi Police Department, Clinton County Coroner, Rossville Fire Department, Clinton County EMS, and Duke Energy.

There is no further information to release at this time.
