Master Trooper Brian Thomas Promoted To Sergeant

(Madison County)- Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter has announced the promotion of Master Trooper Brian Thomas to the rank of Sergeant. He will serve as a squad sergeant at the Pendleton Post where he will supervise a squad of Troopers throughout eight counties.

Sgt. Thomas is a lifelong resident of Henry County. He graduated from Tri Jr./Sr. High School in 1989. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and graduated boot camp in 1989. He was stationed in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks during Operation Desert Storm. Sgt. Thomas received an honorable discharge in 1992. He subsequently served in the United States Army Reserves from 1992-1995.

Sgt. Thomas graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1995 and worked for the New Castle Police Department from 1995-1998. He attended the 56th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in 1998 and was appointed as a Trooper to the Connersville Post. While at Connersville, Thomas served as the Marijuana Eradication Coordinator.

In 2006, Sgt. Thomas was selected as a member of the SWAT Team (Special Weapons and Tactics). While on the team, he served as a breacher as well as a sniper. He served on the team until his promotion in December 2021.

During his career Sgt. Thomas has served the ISP as a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon and served as a Field Training Officer. He is also a certified firearms and speed timing device instructor.

Sergeant Thomas and his family reside in Henry County.
