Late Night Traffic Stop Yields Dealing in Methamphetamine Arrest
Corydon - Around 11:30 Monday night, Trooper Nathan Newton was patrolling northbound on Old State Road 135 near Wyandotte Avenue in Corydon when he observed the vehicle he was behind weaving from side to side. While Trooper Newton was behind the car, it also crossed into the other travel lane on more than one occasion. Trooper Newton then observed that the vehicle had an expired license plate. Trooper Newton stopped the car, which pulled into the nearby McDonald’s Parking lot. Newton was soon assisted by Trooper Dakota Novak and Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Evans and his K-9 partner, Fynn.
As Trooper Newton continued the traffic stop, he identified the driver by her driver’s license; however, the male passenger, later identified as George Allen Conley, 42, Charlestown, IN, did not have an identification card or driver’s license with him. Officers continued the investigation, which included an open-air sniff by K-9 Fynn.
As a result of the traffic stop and subsequent investigation, officers located approximately 2 ounces of methamphetamine as well as an unprescribed pill, marijuana, paraphernalia, and over $1,600.00 in cash. The passenger, George Conley, was arrested for the following:
- Dealing in Methamphetamine - Level 2 Felony
- Possession of Methamphetamine - Level 3 Felony
- Possession of Hypodermic Syringe – Level 6 Felony
- Possession of a Legend Drug - Level 6 Felony
- Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
- Possession of Paraphernalia - Class C Misdemeanor
The driver was cited for driving infractions but was not arrested.
