Tractor-Trailer Fails to Change Lanes
and Strikes INDOT Vehicle
Vermillion County—This morning at 8:25, Indiana State Police
and the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tractor-trailer
versus INDOT vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of State Road 63 at the
Interstate 74 interchange. There were no injuries reported.
Preliminary
investigation revealed a white 2017 Freightliner, driven by 61-year-old Jerry
D. Clinton of Gary, IN. was northbound on SR 63 and approaching the interchange
area. An unoccupied INDOT truck with an activated arrow board and impact attenuator,
was parked in the right lane of SR 63 warning drivers to move into the passing
lane, as workers were performing routine highway maintenance. Jerry D. Clinton failed
to change lanes and struck the rear of the INDOT vehicle.
The tractor was
pulling a box trailer loaded with auto parts and operating under Trans Freight
of Gary, IN. Jerry D. Clinton was cited for failure to yield to a highway maintenance
vehicle.
Northbound SR 63 was
closed for approximately three and half hours for crash cleanup.
The crash was
investigated by ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Senior Trooper Brent Hoover.
Assisting were the Vermillion County and Warren County Sheriff’s Offices and the ISP Lafayette District.

Under the
Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed
innocent unless and until proven guilty.
