Two Stolen Handguns Recovered Within Hour of Being Stolen
Lake County-An
Indiana State Police trooper recovered two handguns that had been reported stolen
only an hour before.
At approximately 2:15 a.m., this morning, Trooper James
Brasseur stopped a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu on I-80/94 west bound at the 8.1 mile
marker (this is approximately one mile west of Grant Street) for doing 93 in a
55 mile per hour posted speed zone. The driver, later identified as Tywoun D.
Nixon, 22 of Gary, was found to have never been licensed.
A subsequent search of the car revealed two Glock 9 mm
handguns found under the front passenger seat.
One of the handguns was loaded and one was not. Two fully loaded magazines were also found. They
were loaded with thirty-two rounds of ammunition.
The handguns had been reported stolen to Gary Police
Department on March 20, 2018 at 1:18 a.m., just an hour before.
Nixon was taken to Lake County Jail in Crown Point and
charged with:
- Two counts theft (possession of stolen firearm) –Level 6
Felony
- One county of violation of
a protection order-Class A Misdemeanor
- One count of handgun no
permit-Class A Misdemeanor
- Driver Never Licensed
Passenger in the car was released at the scene.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and
the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
