Madison County Death Investigation-Update

Markleville – Around 1:30 a.m. Friday morning the Indiana State Police Pendleton District were requested by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department to assist in a death investigation at a home just outside of Markleville.  Just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday evening Madison County received a 9-1-1 call of a male shot and possibly deceased outside of a home in the 3600 block of SR 38, just outside of Markelville.

An autopsy was performed this morning on the body of Uriah Wilson, to determine the exact cause of death.  The autopsy determined the exact cause of death was strangulation.  Further investigation has revealed that shots had been fired before the two men got involved in a physical altercation that ultimately led to Uriah Wilson’s death.

These autopsy findings, along with the investigation findings will be turned over to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office for review of possible charges. Joseph Hartley, age 29, continues to be held in the Hamilton County Jail in connection with the incident.  Please direct future questions to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office.

ISP Pendleton Conducting Death Investigation

Markleville – Around 1:30 a.m. this morning the Indiana State Police Pendleton District was requested by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department to assist in a death investigation at a home just outside of Markleville.  Just after 11:30 p.m. last evening, Madison County received a 9-1-1 call of a male shot and possibly deceased outside of a home in the 3600 block of SR 38, just outside of Markelville.

The early investigation indicates that two men were sitting outside with a bonfire at 3637 SR 38, when some sort of an altercation occurred between the two resulting in gunfire.  When deputies arrived they found Uriah Wilson, age 29 of Markleville, outside the home deceased. It is believed that Wilson, (who was an employee at the Madison County Jail,) had been visiting at the home and bonfire where the incident occurred. A person of interest has been taken into custody in the incident.

Joseph M. Hartley, age 29, is currently being held in the Hamilton County Jail in connection with the incident.  It is believed that Hartley, who is originally from the Pendleton area but now resides in Germany, was at the home visiting relatives where the incident occurred.  The investigation remains ongoing with no further information available for release at this time.
