Madison County Death Investigation-Update
Markleville
– Around 1:30 a.m. Friday morning the Indiana State
Police Pendleton District were requested by the Madison County Sheriff’s
Department to assist in a death investigation at a home just outside of
Markleville. Just after 11:30 p.m.
Thursday evening Madison County received a 9-1-1 call of a male shot and
possibly deceased outside of a home in the 3600 block of SR 38, just outside of
Markelville.
An autopsy was performed this morning on the body of Uriah Wilson, to
determine the exact cause of death. The
autopsy determined the exact cause of death was strangulation. Further investigation has revealed that shots
had been fired before the two men got involved in a physical altercation that
ultimately led to Uriah Wilson’s death.
These autopsy findings, along with the investigation findings will be
turned over to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office for review of possible
charges. Joseph Hartley, age 29, continues to be held in the Hamilton County
Jail in connection with the incident.

ISP Pendleton Conducting Death Investigation
Markleville – Around 1:30 a.m.
this morning the Indiana State Police Pendleton District was requested by the
Madison County Sheriff’s Department to assist in a death investigation at a
home just outside of Markleville. Just
after 11:30 p.m. last evening, Madison County received a 9-1-1 call of a male
shot and possibly deceased outside of a home in the 3600 block of SR 38, just
outside of Markelville.
The early investigation indicates that two men were sitting outside
with a bonfire at 3637 SR 38, when some sort of an altercation occurred between
the two resulting in gunfire. When
deputies arrived they found Uriah Wilson, age 29 of Markleville, outside the
home deceased. It is believed that Wilson, (who was an employee at the Madison
County Jail,) had been visiting at the home and bonfire where the incident
occurred. A person of interest has been taken into custody in the incident.
Joseph M. Hartley, age 29, is currently being held in the Hamilton
County Jail in connection with the incident.
It is believed that Hartley, who is originally from the Pendleton area
but now resides in Germany, was at the home visiting relatives where the
incident occurred. The investigation
remains ongoing with no further information available for release at this time.
