Sandra Straws Sworn in as Indiana
State Police Motor Carrier Inspector
Indianapolis, IN- Today, Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug
Carter gave the oath of office to Probationary Motor Carrier Inspector Sandra
Straws. The ceremony was held in Indianapolis and was witnessed by Straw’s
family and the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED)
command staff.
Straws began the 11
week CVED Academy in September and trained in various areas including emergency
vehicle driving, first aid and CPR. She also studied Indiana laws regarding commercial
vehicle size and weight enforcement as well as Federal Motor Carrier
Regulations. She will now begin a 12 week field training program where she will
be accompanied by a CVED Field Training Officer who will evaluate her knowledge
of Commercial Motor Vehicle laws and regulations and work activities.
Straws will be
assigned to the I-69 Commercial Motor Vehicle scale location near Warren,
Indiana in the Fort Wayne District.
Probationary Motor
Carrier Inspector Straws began her career with the Indiana State Police in May
2009 when she was hired as a radio operator at the Fort Wayne District. Straws
daughter, Kimberly, was hired as her replacement as a regional dispatcher at
the Fort Wayne Radio Dispatch Center when Sandra was accepted to attend the
CVED Academy.
Sandra’s husband Jim
is employed by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. They reside in
Columbia City, Indiana with their daughter Kimberly.
