Locate and Arrest Alleged Driver of Fleeing Van
Vigo County—On Wednesday morning, October 4, 2017 at 04:30,
Indiana State Police Trooper Kyle Hall clocked a dark blue Chrysler mini-van
southbound on 3rd St (US 41) near Locust Street (Terre Haute) at 58
miles-per-hour in a 30mph zone. Trooper Hall caught up to the van and activated
his emergency lighting. The driver of the van pulled into a convenience store
parking lot near 3rd and Poplar Streets, but before Trooper Hall could exit his
police commission, the driver sped off southbound on 3rd Street.
Other Putnamville District troopers attempted to intervene, but the
suspect driver would not stop and continued southbound on US 41 through Vigo
and Sullivan counties reaching speeds of 100mph. As the driver entered Knox
County, Vincennes Police attempted to deploy tire deflation devices on the
suspect van, but could not achieve a position to do so. At that time, the commander
of the Evansville District terminated the event without apprehension of the
driver.
Acting
on information from the suspect vehicle’s registration, other individual’s, and
additional information supplied by the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, Cannelton
Police Department, and the Vincennes Police Department, the suspect and suspect
vehicle were located at a motel on Hart Street in Vincennes, IN. late in the
evening on October 4.
At
12:50a.m. today, Evansville District troopers Corey Risley and Casey Boeckman,
along with Vincennes Police Officer Michael Caswell, took the suspect into custody
without incident and seized the vehicle. Trooper Kyle Hall arrived moments
later, and transported the suspect identified as 43-year-old Randy D. James of
Cannelton, IN. to the Vigo County Jail.
During
the time Randy James was fleeing, he was alleged to have had a female passenger
he refused to let exit the vehicle.
Trooper
Kyle Hall incarcerated Randy D. James on preliminary charges of Resisting Law
Enforcement, Confinement, Reckless Driving, and Driving While Suspended. James
was also cited for other traffic violations.

Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed
innocent unless and until proven guilty.
