Texting and Driving and Drinking=JAIL!

Jasper County-A Kentucky woman found out this morning that when you text and drive and drink you end up in one place and that’s jail.

Trooper Zachary Beaver responded to a single vehicle crash on I-65 north bound at the 201 mile marker (this is four miles south of the Remington/Rensselaer exit) at approximately 7:20 a.m., this Saturday, July 08, 2017, morning.  Beaver located a 2008 Mazda, driven by a Leanna Murphy, 32 0f Walton, Kentucky, that had hit the cable barrier in the median at that location.  Preliminary investigation revealed that Murphy stated she had been texting and driving when she realized her car had drifted off from the left lane, she overcorrected, swerved, and went off the roadway to the west hitting the median cable barrier.

Further investigation by Trooper Beaver showed that Murphy had also been drinking/impaired.  Murphy tested a .22% Blood Alcohol Content (B.A.C.) almost three times over the legal limit (.08% B.A.C.) in Indiana.

Murphy was taken to the Jasper County Jail in Rensselaer where she was incarcerated and charged with:

·         Unsafe lane Movement-infraction

·         Operating While Intoxicated-Class A Misdemeanor
