Become a Trauma-Informed Out-of-School Time Program

IAN Trailblazer Series

More than two-thirds of children report experiencing at least one traumatic event by age 16. The short-term affects of trauma can be seen in learning problems and behavioral reactivity. Long term, these children face the potential for increased involvement with child welfare and juvenile justice systems. They may also experience chronic health conditions, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association.

Child care providers who are trained to apply trauma-informed care in out-of-school time (OST) programs can support healing and improve the overall outcomes for these children and their families. Join the Indiana Afterschool Network and host Calvalyn Day for a virtual workshop at 11 a.m. ET on September 20. Expand your knowledge of trauma-informed best practices by working through the process of developing a trauma-informed action plan.

Participants will explore best practices for maintaining personal well-being while providing trauma-informed care. Learn additional skills to reduce distress, provide emotional support, and influence positive behavioral choices.
