The Friends of the Library and Learning Center of Warren County will be hosting their annual Christmas Open House at the Williamsport Public Library and Learning Center on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 4-7 p.m.
The open house is an old-fashioned way to start the Christmas holiday season. It’s an informal way for people to celebrate the holidays with friends, family, neighbors or coworkers who will be elsewhere on the big day.
The first Christmas Open House was held in 2002, with only a few decorated trees, cookies and punch. It has grown to nearly 20 themed trees ranging from 3-foot trees to 14-foot trees. This year, local musician Burt Etchison and his quartet will be performing traditional Christmas music and easy jazz from 4-6 p.m. At 6 p.m., the Wabash River Strings Dulcimer group will perform for one hour. Santa will be at the library for pictures and Mrs. Claus will be there reading “T’was the Night Before Christmas.” There will also be cookie decorating and crafts for children.
The Williamsport Public Library and Learning Center has seen several improvements recently, including a new roof, new LED lights, new sidewalks with handrails on the steps, a new digital sign in front of the library, new computers and a new drop box. The parking lot has also been sealed. Additionally, the library has been repainted and the carpets have been cleaned. The children's library has a new 75” 4K smart TV, a new 4k Blu-ray player, a new handicap bathroom, a redesigned floor plan, a permanent area for the Friends’ book sale and a new 75-gallon aquarium.
Library staff invites everyone to take part in the open house and to enjoy the library's many improvements. The library is located at 28 E. Second St. in Williamsport. Please call 765-762-6555 with any questions.
The Frankfort Community Public Library is currently hosting a Library of Trees through Jan. 3, 2022.
Local organizations have decorated Christmas trees to inspire giving this holiday season. Library patrons can vote for their favorite trees by donating new hats, gloves, mittens or scarves - along with non-expired and new nonperishable food items - at the library's circulation desk. Each donated item will help determine this year’s favorite tree. Food items will be taken to the Salvation Army, and clothing items will be placed on the library’s Giving Tree during the month of January, available for any member of the community.
This event is made possible by the following local organizations who decorated the trees: Frankfort Garden Club, Frankfort Quilt Guild, Frankfort Rotary, Genda Funeral Home, Goodwin Funeral Home, the Archer-Weston Funeral and Cremation Center, Healthy Communities of Clinton County, Learning Ladder Daycare at the Clinton County Family YMCA, Salvation Army, Staffing Resources LLC and the VFW Post 1110.
Voting ends Dec. 15. For further information, call the library at 765-654-8746.
The Indiana State Library will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 23 and Friday, Dec. 24 for the Christmas holiday. The library will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 31 for the New Year's holiday.
Libraries that need to make adjustments to their InfoExpress schedules during these holidays should contact the InfoExpress coordinator.

Welcome to Digital Collection Highlights. Every other week, librarians at the Indiana State Library share images from the library's ever-growing digital collections. Visit the Digital Collections page to view the latest additions.
The J.D. Adams Manufacturing Company was headquartered on Indianapolis’ west side for many years. The company’s namesake, J.D. Adams, invented the leaning wheel road grader. The leaning wheel allowed the road maker to form a ditch while piling the earth onto the road surface. The grader moved the earth to the side, rather than pushing it, or plowing it. They were first pulled by horses, then by tractors. Some were motorized and others were to be pulled behind. This popular design was eventually manufactured by other companies as well.
People from across the country have contacted the Indiana State Library hoping to date old J.D. Adams machines they have and looking for catalog images for the model they hope to restore. J.D. Adams sold to international markets and had sales offices across the United States and in Canada. One of the most memorable emails the library received was from a man who found one in Zimbabwe.
The Indiana State Library has digitized its collection of J.D. Adams catalogs. These relic machines seem to have made roads from America to Zimbabwe. Explore the collection through the Indiana State Library’s digital collection.
For the first time since 1994, the Encyclopedia of Indianapolis has been expanded and updated and is now available in a digital format. The free-access, web-based encyclopedia builds on the information featured in the 1,600-page print encyclopedia created by The Polis Center in 1994.
The updated encyclopedia provides comprehensive social, cultural, economic, historical, political and physical descriptions of Indianapolis while shedding light on the events, people and organizations that shaped the city’s past and present.
The Encyclopedia of Indianapolis was created in partnership with The Polis Center, Indiana Historical Society, University of Indianapolis, IUPUI University Library, Indiana State Library, The Indiana Historical Bureau, Indiana Landmarks, Butler University, Indiana Archives and Indiana Humanities. The Indianapolis Public Library has assumed responsibility for the encyclopedia to ensure the ongoing updating of the resource.
