The Indiana State Library has archived its annual reports and they are now available to view online. The annual reports were first published in 2015, detailing 2014, and were printed as two separate booklets. One report covered statistics and financials from Indiana public libraries, while the other report detailed statistics and financials from the Indiana State Library. Over the years, features have included top Evergreen checkouts, "on the rise" statistics and public library stories.
In 2020, the reports were condensed into one 2019 report covering both Indiana public libraries and the State Library. The report features financials, selected statistics, a QR code link to detailed statistics and public library stories. This will remain the format going forward.
Click here to view the archived reports from 2014 to 2019.
In November, a physical copy of the 2019 report was mailed to public library directors across the state. Those who have not received a copy, and would like to request a copy, may contact Jennifer Clifton, Library Development Office director at the Indiana State Library.
The Indiana State Library would like to remind InfoExpress users that service will be affected in December and January due to holidays.
There will be no courier service on the following days: Thursday, Dec. 24 on Christmas Eve; Friday, Dec. 25 on Christmas; and Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 on New Year's Day. Libraries only receiving one to two days of service per week may request alternate pickup days for service dates affected by the holidays. This must be done at least two business days in advance, and only one day per week may be rescheduled.
Users should log into InfoExpress, open their user profile and select “Days Unavailable.” They can then enter the date of the holiday or closure under “New Unavailable Date” - or select “More Than One Day,” if applicable - and provide a requested replacement date, if desired.
Please contact the InfoExpress coordinator with any questions.
The Indiana State Library, Indiana State Museum and Terre Haute Children’s Museum are excited to announce a new round of virtual Leap into Science trainings coming in February of 2021.
Leap into Science is a nationwide program developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum that integrates open-ended science activities with children’s books, designed for children ages 3-10 and their families. The program empowers educators to offer workshops in community settings like libraries, museums, and out-of-school time programs to engage underserved audiences in accessible and familiar settings.
The 2021 training sessions will be held on Feb. 4 at 10 a.m., Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. and Feb. 10 at 12 p.m. Each session is two hours and worth two LEUs for Indiana librarians.
Registering and attending a training session commits an organization to becoming a partner. Being a partner entails leading workshops and activities, submitting reports and participating in quarterly calls.
Please contact Beth Yates, children's consultant at the Indiana State Library, for more details.

Welcome to the Government Information Minute. The next phase of the 2020 census for the Census Bureau will be analyzing and producing the data. One might be curious, though, as to what happens with the Census Bureau during the other nine years of the decade? The Census Academy virtual learning hub allows data users to delve into Census Bureau data from this time period. Learn how to access and analyze data that the Census Bureau produces via its 100+ surveys taken across the nation throughout the decade. Though the Bureau is responsible for the nation’s largest surveys - the decennial census and the American community survey - it collects and produces data on many other aspects of American life and business.
One of its newest surveys is the household pulse survey, which measures the social and economic impact of the pandemic, with results in real time. The data hub contains recorded webinars that can be watched at any time, as well as a schedule of upcoming webinars. While these no longer require registration, they do require that a log in via a specific WebEx link and a passcode. The information is available at the links provided through the Census Academy website. Upcoming webinars include offerings from the economic census, the American community survey and the new defense export control and compliance system.
The Indiana State Library's monthly webinar series, What's up Wednesday?, will return on Jan. 27, 2021.
The webinars, which take place on the last Wednesday of each month, feature a different library-related topic and offer the chance for Indiana library workers to earn LEUs. Each webinar will begin with a "what's up at the Indiana State Library" update.
On Jan. 27, the State Library will present "Facilitating a discussion about facilities," a panel discussion about managing library facilities. More details will be forthcoming.
Please contact Kara Cleveland, Professional Development Office supervisor at the Indiana State Library, with any questions.
