Cheri Harris, certification program director and legal consultant at the Indiana State Library, will be holding open office hours at this year's Indiana Library Federation Annual Conference on Monday, Nov. 4 and Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Marriott East in Indianapolis.
From 12-3 p.m. on Monday and from 10:15 a.m.-1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Harris will answer any questions related to Indiana’s public librarian certification requirements. Potential topics of discussion include which library staff members need to be certified and when they must apply for a temporary permit or a 5-year certificate; continuing education requirements; and questions related to earning LEUs. The open office hours will be held at the Indiana State Library's booth, number 56, in the exhibit hall during the conference.
Please contact Harris via email with any questions about the open office hours or with any potential subjects to be covered during the event.
Join Indiana Poet Laureate Adrian Matejka, Indiana Humanities, the Indiana Arts Commission and the Indiana State Library tonight for the INverse Poetry Archive dedication. INverse celebrates and preserves a diverse range of Indiana poetry for future generations of Indiana writers and readers. The archive is a collaboration of Indiana Poet Laureate Adrian Matejka, the Indiana State Library and the Indiana Arts Commission. All creative residents of Indiana are encouraged to join in on the celebration by submitting poems to the online archive beginning on Oct. 24, 2019.
The dedication celebration will begin at 5 p.m. tonight at the Indiana State Library. Sponsored in part by the Academy of American Poets, Glick Philanthropies and Indiana Humanities, the celebration will feature interactive poetry activities, performances and readings by current and former poets laureate and mingling with arts and poetry lovers.

On Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019, from 1:30-3 p.m., the Tippecanoe County Public Library invites the community to attend a casual, family-style open house celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic 1989 building.
“The activities begin with brief comments from long-term library supporter John Gambs,” said County Librarian Jos N. Holman. “Brandon Hawkins will share some thoughts from our current board of trustees, and Harry Mohler, one of the original building architects, will be with us.”
The event will include a presentation of vintage photos, from the conception of the “new” downtown library through the construction phase. People can see how various areas inside the building looked in the early days and compare them to today’s interior.
Attendees are encouraged to tour the library building. Staff members will be available to help demonstrate some new technologies and answer questions.
“We really look forward to hearing ideas and suggestions about the future of the downtown library,” said board of trustee member Mary Springer. “We welcome everyone’s comments and may provide some fun questions to stimulate creative ideas.”
Light refreshments and 30th anniversary surprises are also planned. No RSVP is required. The library is located at 627 South St. in Lafayette.

In their Oct. 17, 2019 e-newsletter, Indiana Management Performance Hub announced the addition of a metadata catalog to the Indiana Data Hub. MPH and its partners use modern data analytics tools to collect, analyze and exchange government data. Policy makers, researchers and citizens can access that data for topics ranging from the opioid epidemic to workforce development. The catalog lists the datasets available on the hub and others within the MPH data environment that may be solicited through their data request process. The catalog provides definitions to all fields in these datasets. It also provides a search function that allows users to identify fields based on providing the organization, type of data, etc.
Metadata facilitates data resource discovery, definition and organization. It helps all data users to have a common definition to use when applying certain fields to their research. As datasets are added to the hub - 139 datasets are currently available - the catalog will be updated.
Also announced, MPH is planning their third annual Data Day for Jan. 22, 2020 at the Indiana Statehouse, with more event information to come. Learn more about MPH and sign up for updates on their website.
