Wrestling festival takes over Indianapolis Public Library

lucha2

It's not very often that a full-sized wrestling ring is set up in the middle of a public library, but that's exactly what happened on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 at IndyPL's Central Library in downtown Indianapolis. The Lucha Libro Festival was a daylong celebration of all things lucha libre, also known as Mexican professional wrestling. Organized by Eduardo Luna of La Sardina Gallery, the bi-cultural festival was designed to bring communities together via wrestling, which is wildly popular in both the United States and Mexico.

From 11 a.m to 2 p.m., six live wrestling matches, often featuring high-flying masked wrestlers known as luchadores, took place in the library's Atrium in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Wrestlers from the Indianapolis-area White River Wrestling company performed acrobatic stunts, posed for pictures with ringside fans and even taunted the crowd.

In addition to the live wrestling, the festival included a kids' lucha libre movie in the library's Green Screen Theater, an artist talk with Carlos Sosa, Melt-Face and El Camaron Electronico of White River Wrestling and a 4 p.m. screening of "Tales of Masked Men: A Journey Through Lucha" in the library's Clowes Auditorium, which closed out the festival. Attendees could also get their faces painted, buy wrestling masks and DVDs, make buttons and masks, participate in thumb wrestling and purchase art.

Throughout the library, 20 vendors, including Consulado de Mexico en Indianapolis, Latinas Welding Group, Stand For Children - Indiana and the Indiana Red Cross interacted with patrons.

"It's great to have such a unique event here in the library," said Jon Barnes, communications specialist at IndyPL.

The Lucha Libro Festival was made possible by LUNA Language Services and Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

Indiana’s new INTIME online tax system

intime2

The Indiana Department of Revenue has launched a new online portal for taxpayers called Indiana Taxpayer Information Management Engine, or INTIME. Over the next four years, DOR will introduce certain tax types to the process of submitting, viewing and verifying past tax payments and returns. The first release was last month, on Sept. 3, for corporate types.

People who pay individual taxes will start using INTIME during the 2020-21 tax season. Click here to view the release schedule graphic. In early August, INTIME was featured on DOR’s Tax Talk blog here.  An INTIME video tutorial is available here on the Project NextDOR website.
