 Nominations are now open for the 2019 The Difference is You Staff Award to be presented at the The Difference is You Conference in September. The nomination form can be found here and nominations will be accepted until Monday, July 22, 2019 at 4 p.m.
This year's conference theme is "We are Community!" Individuals may nominate friends, co-workers, colleagues and even themselves. The committee encourages the nominations of library support staff who are welcoming and who inspire their library community.
This annual conference is a day of learning, networking and fun for Indiana library support staff and paraprofessionals. For more details about the conference, including information about the keynote speaker and session descriptions, click here.
Registration for the 2019 conference is still open with limited spaces remaining. The conference will take place at the Indiana State Library on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Click here to register.
Early bird registration is $25 per person until Aug. 1. After Aug. 1, registration will be $30 per person. After registering, attendees must pre-select their sessions here.

 The Indiana State Library is partnering with the Indiana State Museum, Early Learning Indiana and the Terre Haute Children’s Museum to offer training to librarians, museum workers and other after-school informal educators on a program called Leap Into Science.
Leap into Science is a nationwide program developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia that integrates open-ended science activities with children’s books, designed for children ages 3-10 and their families. "Wind" is the theme for this year's program kits.
Registration in now open for these training sessions. Because the program is grant-funded, specific requirements must be met in order to participate. Please email Beth Yates of the Indiana State Library to receive an information sheet detailing the requirements or view the requirements in the registration links below.
The training is free and worth four LEUs for librarians. Librarians can attend any one of the four training sessions that will take place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. local time.

 The 13th annual CONTENTdm User Group Meeting will take place on Aug. 7-8, 2019 at the Indianapolis Public Library Central Library. The User Group welcomes all CONTENTdm users, from beginner to advanced, from any type of library or historical or cultural institution. This year's theme is "User Experience in Online Cultural Heritage Collections."
Over 20 sessions are planned and will include presentations, panels, training, workshops and even a special "CONTENTdm 101" session presented by OCLC. The keynote speaker will be Craig M. MacDonald, of the Pratt Institute School of Information, an expert on user experience.

 On Oct. 14, 1960 Sen. John F. Kennedy arrived at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor at 2 a.m. intending only to get some sleep, but 10,000 students awaited him. So, he gave an impromptu speech challenging the students to serve their country and spread peace by by living and working in the developing world. Since he signed the executive order that established the Peace Corps on March 1, 1961, over 220,000 Americans have answered that challenge.
For those who are looking for a challenging opportunity in their lives, the Peace Corps website has information that could help. There are pages covering the work the volunteers do, available opportunities, benefits, health and safety, preparation and training, connecting with a recruiter, application instructions and more. On the website, there are hundreds of stories of volunteers and the projects they’ve worked on in 60 counties around the world. On the countries page, potential volunteers can see what projects are available in different countries. The projects cover agriculture, health, education and environment, as well as special projects Feed the Future, The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and The President’s Malaria Initiative.
The Peace Corps website can help anyone looking for a challenge in their lives decide if this is the one for them.
The IMDPLA Advisory Council is seeking session proposals for the fourth annual Indiana Memory DPLA Fest. This annual conference brings together librarians, archivists, museum professionals, educators and others to celebrate Indiana’s Digital Public Library of America Service Hub. Proposals should be related to digital cultural collections, broadly defined. IMDPLA encourage proposals that highlight digitization and online collections work being done in Indiana or focusing on Indiana.
Possible session topics include, but are not limited to: large or small scale digitization projects, including project management, workflows, tools, etc.; metadata standards, design and creation; intellectual property and rights management; online collections access portals and digital exhibitions; and research within and use of digital collections, including collections as data.
Session formats are: a 45-minute presentation, a seven-minute lightning talk, a market place of ideas, demonstration and a poster session. Click here to read a description of each session.
