The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library, in partnership with the Plainfield Police Department, is proud to announce another class of Rape Aggression Defense System graduates.
RAD is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques. It's a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing to the basics of hands-on defense training. The class presented by the Plainfield Police Department also included lectures and discussions in a group setting. More than 20 females, aged 12 and older, participated in the four-session class.
Contact Abby Nagy, marketing and communications specialist at the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library, with any questions about the RAD program.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. The Traumatic Brain Injury: Hope Through Research publication, put out by National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, states that “Traumatic brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability in children and young adults in the United States” and that “TBI is also a major concern for elderly individuals, with a high rate of death and hospitalization due to falls among people age 75 and older.” Since TBI can happen at to anyone, at any age or time, the information given on this website can be useful to virtually everyone.
The specific information covered on the website includes an explanation of the injury and how TBI affects the brain, with descriptions of the different diagnosis such as diffuse axonal injury, concussion, coup/contrecoup lesions, contusions and skull fractures. The website also includes information on the signs and symptoms of TBI, both in general and specifically in children, as well as information on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of TBI.
Information on the Traumatic Brain Injury: Hope Through Research webpage can be helpful to those who have children or older family members. It can also be beneficial to people who bicycle, rock climb, drive or ride in a car, walk downstairs or generally don’t spend their time wrapped in bubble pack. In other words, this website can be useful to everyone.
Registration is now open for the 2019 Annual Public Library Budget Webinar and Workshop. The day ends with announcements from the Indiana State Library.
