The Indiana Library & Historical Board (ILHB) voted unanimously on Oct. 12, 2018 to keep the cost of the Public Library Access Card (PLAC) at $65 effective Jan. 1, 2019.
The PLAC program allows library patrons to purchase a card which permits them to borrow materials directly from any public library in Indiana.
Any individual who holds a valid Indiana public library card may obtain a PLAC card. The cost of the card is $65 and each card is valid for 12 months after being issued.
The Indiana State Library collects the revenue from the sale of these cards and places it in a designated fund account for the PLAC program. After the end of the calendar year, all of the money collected is distributed back to libraries on the basis of net loans.

"SONS: Seeing the Modern African American Male," an interactive traveling photography exhibition revealing differences between the perceptions and true identities of black men in America by photographer Jerry Taliaferro, is on display now through Oct. 31, 2018 at the Indianapolis Public Library's Central Branch.
On Oct. 6, in conjunction with the opening of the exhibit, Kevin Powell, a former cast member of MTV's "The Real World," delivered the keynote address. Powell, who is now a political activist and author of 13 books, including "The Education of Kevin Powell: A Boy's Journey Into Manhood," spoke as part of his "Education of Us Tour," the mission of which is to empower the powerless and engage communities about issues in our times.
According to the Indianapolis Public Library's website, "'SONS' takes us past the screens to see, really see, black men for who they are — fathers and sons — as they truly are, and as they one day hope to be." Featuring 30 local men - including a boxing champion, a lawyer and the first African-American president of the Firefighters Union Local 416 - the exhibit showcases two photos of each man; one nondescript photo challenging the observer to conclude who the man is and another photo in which the subject reveals who he is or who he wants to become.
Read more about "SONS" here. The exhibit is sponsored by the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation, The Indianapolis Foundation and The Center for Black Literature & Culture.
The Indiana State Library Foundation is pleased to announce "An Evening at the Library," which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Indiana State Library.

Meet foundation members and enjoy hors d'oeuvres in the Great Hall of the beautiful and historic 1930s Art Deco Indiana State Library building.
Admission to the event is $25 and tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance by mailing in this form. Click here for information on sponsorship opportunities. Nearly every Hoosier uses the internet daily and with more
and more personal information being shared and housed online, it is important
to educate Indiana residents about why cybersecurity is needed. National
Cybersecurity Awareness month (NCAM) marks its 15th year
in October 2018. Cybersecurity is in every aspect of our lives and it is
important that everyone is aware of why and how to stay safe online. Whether
you are paying bills online, working or communicating with friends and family
through social media, every Hoosier adult, child and business is at risk for a
cyber attack.
On Sept. 21,
2018, the Indiana Executive Council on
Cybersecurity delivered a comprehensive strategy plan to Gov. Eric
J. Holcomb per Executive Order 17-11.
Read the Indiana Cybersecurity
Strategic Plan to learn more about what state government is doing to
address cybersecurity threats. The Indiana Cybersecurity Hub is
intended to be a central hub of information for Hoosiers to find resources and
more information about how to stay informed and safe. Click one of the buttons
to get started.
Download NCAM resources
from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and additional information from
the Indiana Department of Homeland Security at GetPrepared.in.gov.
