Click here for a detailed description of the position and for instructions on how to apply. The deadline for application is Dec. 15, 2017.

The state library also announces new Saturday hours. Beginning in January of 2018, the library will now be open on the second Saturday of each month. In addition, the library will also remain open during library special events, such as the Genealogy Fair, Vision Expo, Letters About Literature and Poetry Out Loud. PLAC card fee to remain unchanged in 2018

plac

The Indiana Library & Historical Board (ILHB) voted unanimously on Dec. 1, 2017 to keep the cost of the Public Library Access Card (PLAC) at $65 effective Jan. 1, 2018.

The PLAC program allows library patrons to purchase a card which permits them to borrow materials directly from any public library in Indiana.

Any individual who holds a valid Indiana public library card may obtain a PLAC card. The cost of the card is $65 and each card is valid for 12 months after being issued.

The Indiana State Library collects the revenue from the sale of these cards and places it in a designated fund account for the PLAC program. After the end of the calendar year, all of the money collected is distributed back to libraries on the basis of net loans.

Artist callout for 6th annual Plainfield Arts Gala: 'Impact'

artsgala

The Friends of the Plainfield–Guilford Township Public Library invites local artists to submit work for consideration for the 2018 Arts Gala: "Impact."

Now in its sixth successful year, this art sale and fundraiser is one of the largest indoor fine art events in Hendricks County. This event offers art items in a variety of styles and media for sale to the public. Arts Gala will take place April 27, 28 and 29, 2018 at the library.

“Each year of Arts Gala is unique, as we feature a particular medium, signature artist and piece. This year, 'Impact' will be represented through fine art printmaking,” explains Laura Appleby, Plainfield Public Library art gallery manager. “Our library impacts our community and our community supports local artists.”

This callout is for all artists to submit their artwork, including specifically printmakers who wish to also be in the running for the coveted signature artist/piece designation. The signature artist will receive a decorated feature in our Arts Gala program, highlighted gallery space and media coverage. The signature piece must be for sale at Arts Gala 2018. Each year more than 80 artists are selected to participate in this event.

The Arts Gala opens with the "Starlight Reception for Patrons of the Arts" on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 7 - 10 p.m. This spectacular event allows Patrons of the Arts to meet the artists and gives them the first opportunity to view and make their purchases from the displayed art. Attendees will enjoy live music, hors d’oeuvres from local eateries, wine and craft beers with a pledge to spend $50 or more at the show.

The event opens to the public Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 1 - 5 p.m., with various artist demonstrations throughout the day.

The purpose of the Arts Gala is to raise funds for special library projects and engagement that will benefit the community. In previous years funds went toward updating the children’s room and sponsoring mental health events and awareness.

Over the last five years, the Arts Gala fundraiser has sold over $64,000 in local artwork; raised over $24,000 for library projects; partnered with over 50 community sponsors; been publicized in over 30 publications; partnered with over 150 local artists and drawn over 3,000 attendees.

The entry deadline is Jan. 12, 2018. This event is a juried exhibition and sale. There are no artist fees. The library will retain a 30 percent commission on all artwork sold. To apply, please send three images of your work to this email address

For more artist information please view the artist prospectus on the library’s website.

Society of Indiana Archivists Annual Meeting proposal deadline is this Friday

sia

The Society of Indiana Archivists (SIA) is inviting individuals to submit proposals for the 2018 SIA Annual Meeting that will take place at the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis on Friday, April 13, 2018.

The deadline for submissions is this Friday, Dec. 8.

Individuals are invited to contribute their archives knowledge and experiences with colleagues from around the state. Sessions last 45 minutes and sessions of all formats are welcome, including, but not limited to, individual speakers, co-presenters, panels and lightning rounds. Shorter session times may also be available.

Sessions can be on any aspect of archival work and speakers are encouraged to share both successes and failures so that attendees can benefit from past mistakes. A successful session will be informative, inspiring, and create discussion.

This year’s theme is “Thinking Outside the Box.” Share new and innovative projects happening at your institution, ways you’ve shared your collection through exhibits or outreach or creative solutions to problems. Possible topics include archival instruction, lone arranger issues, exhibit creation, digitization projects, volunteer programs, grant writing, processing strategies, public access issues, copyright and advocacy.

Speakers do not need to be SIA members. Students and new professionals are encouraged to submit. Submit proposals as a Google Form here or via email to Claire Horton, SIA vice president. Please include a session title, brief description of the proposed session in 250 words or less and name and contact information for all speakers.
