The Indiana State Library recently launched Indiana Legacy,
which combines many of the library's most popular online indexes into a database
containing over four million entries covering vital records, newspapers, marriage
indexes and more. This database is free to use and may be accessed from
any computer.
The database incorporates existing Indiana State Library databases with the Vital INformation Exchange (VINE), a collaborative statewide database composed of Indiana local history and vital records from Indiana libraries, historical societies, genealogy societies and related organizations.

As more of our cultural heritage is digitized and made accessible online by collecting institutions, users are encountering a bewildering variety of information about the rights in digital objects. This workshop explores copyright and how to apply the correct rights statements to your collections.
Presenting will be Greg Cram, the Associate Director of Copyright and Information Policy at The New York Public Library.
The workshop, which is co-sponsored by the Indiana Memory Digital Public Library of America Hub (IM DPLA) and the Indiana Album, Inc., will take place on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Indiana State Library. Funding provided by the Indiana State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Registration is $25, which includes lunch. Click here for more information and to register.
Morgan County Public Library (MCPL) is set to present its second annual Family History Month event this October.
In 2016, the Indiana Genealogical Society awarded a grant to MCPL to allow the library to attend the Midwestern Roots genealogy conference. The grant stipulated that MCPL provide programming based on information presented at the conference. "We had a good turnout last year and have scheduled new programs for 2017," said MCPL Genealogy Librarian Janice Kistler.
Family History Month programs will transpire at the main branch of MCPL in Martinsville, Ind. "Scrapbooking your Family History" will take place on Oct. 17, "Scrapbooking Swap and Crop" will take place on Oct. 21, "Ghosts in Your Home: Researching Your Home’s History" will take place on Oct. 24 and "Honor Flight" will close out the programming on Oct. 26. MCPL asks attendees to register in advance. A library card is not required.
For more information, call the library at (765) 342-3451 or visit MCPL's website.
The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is proud to announce that they have expanded their collection of STEM-related games and kits for children. What began as a grant-funded program to build technology competencies in young girls has grown into a large collection for parents and kids to discover together.
With this collection, the library encourages children to dive deep into technical literacy by offering fun, participatory and engaging toys and games covering basic science, math, coding, mechanics and robotics proficiency.
The library also has a large collection of adult tabletop games to check out and take home as well. “Whether you’re thinking about buying a game and want to play it first, or you just need something fresh for family game night, you’re sure to find something fun at the library,” explains Matthew Stevenson, digital services librarian and gaming expert.
View the entire listing of board games the library offers on their website. There you can also view “learn to play” videos of each game.
The library would like to invite all adult gaming enthusiasts to join them the first Monday of the month, starting Nov. 1, from 6 – 8 p.m. for Open Game Night. Each month will feature a new tabletop game from the collection. No registration required.
For more information about library games, events or programs, please visit the library's website or visit the library at 1120 Stafford Road in Plainfield.

In December of 2016, the Ladoga-Clark Township Public Library received a $47,000 grant, courtesy of the Montgomery County Community Foundation (MCCF). The purpose of the grant was to allow the library to make energy efficient improvements to the building. The funds received are from the Irwin Lee Detchon Fund and the Walter Hulet Fund, both managed by MCCF.
Some of the energy efficient improvements to the library include modification of the ceiling, the installation of new windows and the installation of insulation. The florescent bulbs in the library were also replaced with energy-efficient LED lighting.
On Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, from 5 - 7 p.m., the library is hosting an open house and is inviting the public to come see the upgrades. The open house will include light refreshments and on display will be artwork by Ladoga Elementary students. There will also be "Stories on the Lawn" at 6:30 p.m. The library is located at 128 E. Main Street in Ladoga, Ind.
