Exercises on paper will be included as part of the workshop. No registration is required. Click here for more information.

Salary is negotiable and will be based on qualifications and experience.

All 30-minute-plus Lynda courses now eligible for LEUs

lynda

All courses on Lynda.com are now eligible for LEUs for Indiana librarians, provided they are over 30-minutes long. In the past, library employees were limited to taking courses on the Indiana State Library's (ISL) playlists, which signified that they had been approved. Now, all courses on Lynda.com are approved. The state library will keep the playlists on their website as a tool to help users find courses that might be of interest, but permission from the state library is no longer required before taking a course that is not on the playlist. As a result, ISL has added Lynda.com back to a list of blanket providers.

The state library has paid for subscriptions to Lynda.com so library staff can have access to these trainings for free. In order to access Lynda courses for the first time, a request for a log on code must be made by completing the short form found at the bottom of this page from ISL's website.

TCPL's Klondike branch celebrates ten years with new donor wall and open house

tcpl

Join Tippecanoe County Public Library (TCPL) staff members, customers and library supporters from 3 to 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 26, at the Klondike Branch Library open house, 3062 Lindberg Road in West Lafayette, as the library celebrates its ten year anniversaryProfessional storyteller, and Arts for Learning Indiana artist, Lou Ann Homan will perform classic European fairy tales at 4 p.m. Light refreshments and Klondike ice cream bars are also part of this all-ages celebration.

In gratitude for gifts to the TCPL Foundation used for collection materials, branch furniture and a wealth of digital technologies, a customized donor wall will be unveiled during the open house. The wall design includes a list of the many individuals, groups and local businesses who helped make this branch such a cozy, welcoming addition to the neighborhood.

“It really is hard to believe our first, true neighborhood branch is already ten years old,” said County Librarian Jos N. Holman. “The welcome and response we received at the Klondike Branch quickly surpassed all our early hopes for the branch. With additional homes now being constructed, we look forward to welcoming even more families to the neighborhood and our services.”

Built in 2007, the Klondike Branch houses approximately 50,000 items and the library offers a variety of digital equipment including computers, public printers, internet stations, music and animation editing options, youth educational games and more. Learn more here

Gale Virtual Reference Library enhancements coming Aug. 4

inspire

Gale has announced upcoming Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) enhancements that will release on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017.

Enhancements include an updated book viewer, reading level indicators, improved search, recommended articles, updated MARC records and more. The updated book viewer will give Gale admin users the option to default the reading experience to the cover-to-cover book view. The addition of three reading levels will allow users to more easily find suitable reading content. Upgrades to the search formula will improve the relevancy of results and emphasize the most important elements.

Questions may be directed toward Nick Schultz, consortia project manager with Gale.

Visit the Gale website and keep an eye on the Gale blog for further updates on GVRL.
