PBS's POV
is television's longest-running showcase for independent nonfiction films. The films are known for their intimacy, their unforgettable
storytelling and their timeliness, putting a human face on contemporary social
issues.
POV recently announced the new line-up of
documentaries for their 30th season on PBS, which will premiere on June 26, 2017.
From Syrian immigrants adjusting to life in Los Angeles to North Carolina’s rural
African-American community to suburban police forces navigating rising
tensions in their neighborhoods, these films offer a timely montage of diverse
stories threaded together by universal desires for inclusion, success and
safety.
These award-winning films are available to
libraries for free through the POV Community Network. Along with a DVD of the
film, POV provides a discussion guide and suggested reading list to help
librarians facilitate community conversations and provide context for the film.
In addition to over 90 films from past POV
seasons, documentaries from POV's upcoming season are available for
sneak-preview screenings prior to their debut on PBS. Here's a link to a PDF with our new
30th Season line-up and dates screenings can begin. You can also watch the trailers
here.
To register a screening and borrow DVDs, join the POV
Community Network. Once
approved, log in to your account and click "My Events" to register a
screening.
State form 31873 "Certificate of Appointment –
Library Board Member” has been revised.
The most significant changes are that the form has
been revised to include clearer instructions, a field to note the appointment
begin date for the appointee and fields to provide more information about
individuals filling partial terms. These changes will assist
libraries in keeping track of board appointments and remembering the various
timelines involved in getting an appointment made. There were also other minor
tweaks made to the form.
Each library will need to communicate this update to
their respective appointing authorities. The Indiana State Library does not have a way
to contact all of each library’s appointing authorities to let them know about
the updated form.
The non-fillable Word form can be found here. The fill-in PDF form can be found here.
Please contact Sylvia Watson of the state library with any questions.

Indiana POL champion Newland, from Bloomington High School South, took
first place in the spoken category, with second place going to Gabrielle D.
Kunzika, from Classical Magnet School in Connecticut.
Newland's recitation can be viewed here.
