Recently, Northwest Regional Coordinator Kimberly Brown-Harden visited
the Benton County Public Library (BCPL). While there, she had an opportunity to
meet and talk to Cara Ringle.
Are you from the area? If not, where are you from originally? Yes,
Fowler is my hometown. I lived in other places for school, and I live
in a different city now, but I travel to the BCPL in Fowler every day.
What inspired you to work in libraries? I've
always loved reading and just learning in general. I always came to the
library as a child, so when I needed a summer job, I started working
there. I learned how multi-faceted libraries actually are and made the
decision to get my MLS in grad school. Along the way I've had wonderful
mentors who taught me what being a great librarian is all about, and I
want to follow in their footsteps.

Join Rare Book and Manuscripts Librarian Lauren Patton on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 for a webinar that will educate attendees on how to get involved with World War I events and exhibits around the state. Use this webinar as a tool to spark participation within your library.
On April 6, 1917, the United States officially declared
war on the German Empire and entered World War I. This remains America’s
forgotten war, although more Americans gave their lives than in Korea and
Vietnam combined. Indiana and the World War I Centennial Commission will be
commemorating the World War I Centennial over the next two years and using it
an opportunity to educate Hoosiers about the war’s causes and consequences and
to honor the sacrifice of Indiana men and women who served.
Complete webinar details can be found here. Participants may register here.
The
Academic Libraries of Indiana and the Indiana State Library invite all

a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Indianapolis Public Library Central Branch
located at 40 East Saint Clair St.
Program information and registration are available here. Registration closes on March 24, 2017.

INSPIRE, Indiana's virtual online library, has been updated to
include the Modern Language Association's (MLA) recent citation changes.
According to the MLA's website "The eighth edition of the MLA Handbook, published in 2016,
rethinks documentation for an era of digital publication. The MLA now
recommends a universal set of guidelines that writers can apply to any
source and gives writers in all fields—from the sciences to the
humanities—the tools to intuitively document sources." Read about all of the changes here.
