The bicentennial of statehood provides an ideal opportunity to discuss and analyze the many contributions of women’s work to Indiana history. Thus, the Indiana Historical Bureau and the Indiana State Library will host “Hoosier Woman at Work,” a women’s history symposium, on March 26, 2016, at the Indiana State Library and Historical Building in downtown Indianapolis. This one-day conference will explore and expand knowledge of women’s contributions to Indiana through their labor via speakers, presentations, and panel discussions. The theme, “Hoosier Woman at Work” is broadly defined but not limited to the following topics: volunteering for public welfare, contributing to Indiana’s agricultural heritage, caring for home and family, and wage earning occupations.
Conference papers (approximately 10 pages) may be based on original research, synthesis of scholarship, or participant experience. Sessions will consist of two or three papers with comments.
To submit a proposal for a paper, send a one-page proposal for the presentation and a one-page c.v. Panel proposals should include a one-page proposal which specifies the topic each participant will discuss, and a one-page c.v. per participant. Academic, public, and independent historians, as well as graduate students, are eligible to present papers. All presenters must be present at the conference.
The deadline for submitting paper and /or session proposals is December 1, 2015. E-mail submissions are encouraged and will be accepted until the deadline.
Submit proposals to: Hoosier Women at Work c/o Dani Pfaff Indiana Historical Bureau 140 N. Senate Ave., Room 130 Indianapolis, IN 46204 Email: dpfaff@history.IN.gov

Sharing is a part of our everyday lives! With smartphones, tablets, and laptops always within an arm’s reach it is important that we understand when it is okay to copy, download, and share content from different sources.
Content creators, researchers, teachers, and advisors won't want to miss this event! Develop a better understanding of copyright law, fair use, and guidelines on how to balance the rights of authors and creators with the needs of your audience and institution.
We are very excited to welcome Nancy Sims as our conference keynote speaker. Nancy is the University of Minnesota Libraries’ subject specialist on copyright issues. She is a practicing librarian, with a wealth of experience working in academic libraries. She’s also a lawyer, and is fascinated by the pervasiveness of copyright issues in modern life.

Effective September 1, 2015, the Indiana State Library will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. This is a two hour change from the previous hours of 8 a.m. to 4p.m.
The decision to change Saturday hours was made to align with other state agencies in the downtown area.
“The new Saturday hours will align with the Indiana Statehouse and the Indiana State Museum,” said State Librarian Jacob Speer. “This alleviates any confusion to anyone visiting the downtown historic sites and focuses the hours we are open during the times when we have our most customers.”
