INDOT to host public hearing for S.R. 46 Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Dearborn County
Public invited to provide feedback at East Central High School Performing Arts Center (Des #1383721)
DEARBORN COUNTY, Ind.— In partnership with Beam, Longest and Neff (BLN), the Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 12, for the proposed State Road 46 Bridge Rehabilitation Project over Whitewater River in Dearborn County.
The hearing will take place at the East Central High School Performing Arts Center (1 Trojan Road A, St. Leon, IN 47012) and will provide an opportunity for the public to interact with the project team, receive the latest updates on the project, and provide official public comment. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. to allow attendees time to view displays and talk with project personnel prior to a presentation that will begin at 6:00 p.m. Following the presentation, a public comment session will be held.
The project will rehabilitate the existing bridge and the east and west roadway approaches to current INDOT and FHWA standards for load capacity and condition. The concrete deck and joints will be replaced, new PF-1 concrete bridge rail will be incorporated, as well as addressing other deteriorated elements. All areas of the truss will be cleaned and painted green to match the existing color. The project aims to reset the service life of the bridge and for it to meet current standards. The contract is currently scheduled to let to contractors in July 2024.
The Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan for the project requires a full closure for approximately eight months with a 1.5-mile-long detour route utilizing U.S. 52, I-74 and S.R. 1. Additional project information will be presented at the hearing. INDOT will coordinate with emergency services, local school corporation officials and project stakeholders to ensure potential disruptions are minimized. The estimated construction cost is approximately $7.2 million.
