I-465 closures planned for June and July on southwest side of Indianapolis
Improvements will add capacity on I-465 between I-65 and I-70
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Improvements to I-465 on Indianapolis’ southwest side, including an additional travel lane in each direction, are a significant component of the overall I-69 Finish Line project and will require temporary, directional closures of I-465 in June and July. Construction work will require motorists to adjust their commutes or plan for longer travel times to reach their destinations. Maps of both eastbound and westbound closures are available here. Eastbound and westbound closures will not take place at the same time.
Eastbound I-465
From June 2-21, eastbound lanes of I-465 will be fully closed to traffic between I-65 and I-70. The detour for I-465 eastbound traffic will follow I-70 eastbound to I-65 southbound in the South Split. The following ramps will also be closed for the duration of the closure:

Kentucky Avenue/S.R. 67 to/from I-465 eastbound

Mann Road to I-465 eastbound

Harding Street/S.R. 37 to/from I-465 eastbound

Westbound I-465
From July 7-29, westbound lanes of I-465 will be fully closed to traffic between I-65 and I-70. The detour for I-465 westbound traffic will follow I-65 northbound to I-70 westbound in the South Split. The following ramps will be closed for the duration of the closure:

East Street/U.S. 31 to/from I-465 westbound

Harding Street/S.R. 37 to/from I-465 westbound

The southbound U.S. 31 (East Street) ramp to I-465 westbound that is currently closed will remain closed through late 2024.

Adding Capacity: Safely and Efficiently
The directional closures will allow construction crews to safely perform many of the work activities associated with adding travel lanes, such as bridge and structure work, installing drainage structures, and grading for the new I-69/I-465 interchange. Hundreds of construction workers will be actively working on-site 24/7 during each closure. The official detour for both closures will follow I-65 and I-70.
