Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA)

INDOT will be issuing a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) on January 2, 2023, for local bridge preventative maintenance type projects.  A Preventative Maintenance project aims to prevent, delay, or mitigate deterioration.  Treatments may be condition driven or on a fixed cycle but does not include structural or operational improvements of an existing bridge beyond its originally designed strength or capacity. 

For a Local Public Agency (LPA) to apply for preventative maintenance activities, the LPA must have an INDOT-approved Asset Management Plan. 

The Indiana Design Manuel Chapter 412 (https://www.in.gov/dot/div/contracts/design/Part%204/Chapter%20412%20-%20Bridge%20Preservation.pdf) lists the treatments that are acceptable as Bridge Preventive Maintenance.  In the chapter we use the term “Bridge Preservation” as an umbrella term for both Bridge Preventive Maintenance and Bridge Rehabilitation.  In practice, “Bridge Preservation” is more often used interchangeably with “Bridge Preservation Maintenance”.  

INDOT’s Asset Management for Local Public Agency Bridges Policy and Template are available on the INDOT web under the 2025 Call for Projects heading on the following page: https://www.in.gov/indot/doing-business-with-indot/local-public-agency-programs/notice-of-funding-availability-nofa/. 

Submit the completed Bridges Asset Management Plans to INDOT LPA MPO INDOTLPAMPO@indot.IN.gov no later than December 16, 2022.

Attention Local Public Agencies - INDOT Wants Your Input

The 109^th Purdue Road School Transportation Conference and Expo is scheduled for March 14 & 15, 2023.  INDOT would like to solicit program input from our Local Public Agencies to address current topics of interest.  All topics regarding finance, programmatic type topics etc., are all welcome. 

Please email your topic request to Kathy Eaton-McKalip at kaeaton-mckalip@indot.in.gov by September 30, 2022. 

 LPA ERC TRAINING

2022 Employee in Responsible Charge (ERC) training is online. In order to enroll, please visit our Local Public Agency Program website and click 'ERC Certification Program' for enrollment instructions on the following courses:  

1. ERC Basic Certification 
2. ERC Recertification 
3. ERC Bridge Inspection Certification (for all countywide bridge inspection & inventory.)

Contact ELearning@indot.in.gov for any questions regarding the INDOT Training Portal, or LPAQuestions@indot.in.gov for questions about course content and to enroll in an ERC Certification Course once you have an INDOT Training Portal User ID.

INDOT Inactive PO's and Expiring Project End Dates (PED)

If any of your projects are at risk of having an expired Project End Date or a PO becoming Inactive, please contact your district office.  There is a risk of losing Federal Funding.
