U.S. 231 to be resurfaced from Main St to I-65
LAKE COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation announces lane closures for U.S. 231 between I-65 and S Main St starting Sunday, April 18.
U.S. 231 is being resurfaced in this location, and work will occur mainly during the hours of 9pm to 6am Sunday through Thursday. Flaggers will direct traffic in the area where work is occurring. This project will be ongoing through mid-July, 2021.
INDOT urges drivers to stay alert near crews and follow traffic directions carefully. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time when driving through this area. Drivers should slow down and drive distraction-free through all work zones.

About the Indiana Hands-Free Law In 2019, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reported that distracted driving from mobile devices was a factor in at least 1,263 crashes and three fatal crashes. To make Hoosier roads safer, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed the Indiana Hands-Free law to reduce distracted driving across the state. Beginning July 1, 2020, drivers are prohibited from holding a mobile device, except in emergencies, while their vehicles are moving.
