INDOT Launches TheLloyd4U
Includes more than a dozen improvement projects
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Oct. 14, 2020) – Work is beginning on TheLloyd4U. It includes more than a dozen improvement projects along the Lloyd Expressway. The projects extend from Posey County Line Road to Cross Pointe Boulevard.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plans to invest more than $100 million in improvements to make the Lloyd Expressway more efficient and safer for motorists to navigate. The work will include intersection improvements, bridge replacements, pavement replacement and more.
“A major investment is being made in our city,” said Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. “It’s an investment that will benefit our community for years to come. We know how vital infrastructure is to economic development. Improved connectivity leads to increased opportunities. Improved roads make it easier for drivers to get to work, home and destinations in our city.”
The improvement projects are divided into two phases. Phase One extends from Rosenberger Avenue to Cross Pointe Boulevard. Traffic analysis and design concepts are underway on Phase One. Phase Two extends from Posey County Line Road to Rosenberger Avenue. Traffic analysis and preliminary design work for Phase Two is expected to begin in spring 2021.
“The Lloyd Expressway is a key connector for Vanderburgh County and the region,” said Vanderburgh County Commissioner Ben Shoulders. “It’s exciting to see work begin on these improvement projects. They reach from one end of the county to the other and our residents will see the benefits with a more efficient and safer commute on The Lloyd.”
Phase One project letting is expected in fall 2023 with construction expected to begin in spring 2024. Phase Two project letting is expected in fall 2024 with construction expected to begin in spring 2025.
