State Road 75 Chip Seal Preservation
in Carroll County
Crews will chip/fog seal and rehabilitate roadway
State Road 75 will be closed between the Towns of Camden and
Flora in Carroll County, beginning Tuesday,
September 26 and running through Friday, September 29. Crews will perform a
chip seal and fog seal operation to preserve the road surface. Please note: this project is dependent on
dry weather and may be delayed if conditions aren’t ideal.
State
road detours must be along state-maintained roadways only. Drivers wishing to travel south on State Road 75 will
be detoured west on State Road 218, south on State Road 25, south on U.S. 421,
east on State Road 18 to State Road 75. Drivers traveling north on State Road
75 will be detoured west on State Road 18, north on U.S. 421, north on State
Road 25, east on State Road 218 to State Road 75. (Map Attached)
Chip Seal Explained- The chip seal process consists
of distributing a liquid asphalt emulsion on the roadway and covering the
liquid asphalt with crushed stone to provide a new wearing surface. Once the
asphalt has cured, any excess chips left on the roadway are swept from the
surface.
Chip sealing extends the life
of a roadway by protecting it from moisture, ultraviolet degradation, and other
damaging exposures. In addition to sealing the pavement, chip seal
applications reestablish surface friction – improving safety for the motoring public. Of
the pavement preservation methods employed by the state, chip sealing is
perhaps the most cost effective. Studies show that every $1 invested in
chip seal operations saves $6 to $14 in future roadway costs.
