I-65 Traffic Shifting to Phase 2 Over South Side I-465 Bridges
Construction Contractors are planning to shift Interstate 65 traffic lanes for Phase 2 of the $19.6 million project rebuilding six bridges over I-465 and Lick Creek on the south side of Indianapolis.
Starting Thursday at 9 p.m. until Friday at 6 a.m., the I-465 East ramp to I-65 South will be closed, and the I-465 West ramp to I-65 South will have one lane closed, as crews modify pavement markings and shift ramp lanes merging onto I-65 South toward the right.
During the ramp closure, traffic will be directed to continue east to Emerson Avenue Exit 52 and return westbound on I-465 and access I-65 South.
Starting Saturday at 9 p.m. until Sunday at 6 a.m., I-65 South will be reduced to one open lane as crews modify pavement markings to shift two southbound lanes onto a new bridge over I-465.
Weather permitting, southbound traffic will be shifted into Phase 2 before Monday morning's commute hours.
Northbound traffic will remain in its current configuration for about two more weeks as crews prepare to divert three northbound lanes across the median to share the southbound half of the interstate. Opposing directions of traffic will be separated by temporary concrete barriers. A specific date for the northbound Phase 2 switch will be announced.
I-65 traffic is expected to remain in the Phase 2 configuration through the end of the project. Bridge construction is expected to be substantially complete, with all lanes and ramps open to traffic, before the end of this year.

Current ramp closures
(1) The eastbound I-465 ramp to northbound I-65 is closed for the duration of the construction project, and (2) the southbound I-65 ramp to eastbound I-465 was closed April 10 for up to 150 days. During these ramp closures, signed detours direct traffic south on I-65 to Southport Road (Exit 103) to return northbound on I-65.
(3) The northbound I-65 ramp to westbound I-465 was closed May 10 for up to 150 days. During this ramp closure, interstate traffic will be directed north to the Raymond Street (Exit 109) interchange to return southbound on I-65 and access westbound I-465.
