I-70 East Ramp to Indianapolis Int'l. Airport,
Ronald Reagan Expressway Ramp to I-70 West
Close Friday Night Through Monday Morning

RAMP CLOSURE/DETOUR MAP

Construction contractors plan to close the eastbound I-70 and Ronald Reagan/Ameriplex Parkway ramp to Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Drive (Indianapolis International Airport) AND the Ronald Reagan/Ameriplex Parkway ramp to westbound I-70 this weekend for bridge maintenance and preservation.

Weather permitting, the ramps are scheduled to close starting at 9 p.m. on Friday (July 14) and open before 6 a.m. on Monday (July 17).

Posted and electronic message signs direct eastbound I-70 exiting traffic to continue to I-465 South and State Road 67/Kentucky Avenue Exit 8. Motorists can use the interchange to return to I-465 North and I-70 West to access Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Drive (Indianapolis International Airport).

Access from Ameriplex Parkway will remain open to eastbound I-70, and motorists may follow the same detour to access Indianapolis International Airport from westbound I-70.

Traffic on Ronald Reagan Parkway will be directed to the State Road 267 (Exit 66) entrance ramp to I-70 West via U.S. 40.

Next weekend

In the event of rain, work will be postponed to the following weekend. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, crews intend to close the Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Drive (Indianapolis International Airport) ramp to I-70 West starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 21 until 6 a.m. on Monday, July 24.

During this ramp closure, traffic will be directed eastbound on I-70 to I-465 South and State Road 67/Kentucky Avenue Exit 8. Motorists can use the interchange to return to I-465 North and I-70 West.

At the same time, westbound I-70 will be reduced to two open lanes that will be temporarily shifted to the left at the bridges immediately west of Ronald Reagan/Ameriplex Parkway.

About the project

The work is part of a $4.6 million bridge preservation contract for 15 structures along Interstate 70 between the Ronald Reagan/Ameriplex Parkway interchange and I-465 on the west side of Indianapolis.

Eleven of the bridges are located at the I-70 and Ronald Reagan/Ameriplex Parkway interchange area, three bridges are located on Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Drive ramps to and from the Indianapolis International Airport, and one bridge is on High School Road over I-70.

The project intends to protect and extend the life of each structure by applying modified concrete overlays to the bridge decks, sealing bridge joints, and repairing various concrete bridge components.

Traffic will be maintained as much as possible during the project. Some bridges will remain open to traffic with overnight and weekend lane closures as work is performed one-half at a time.

B-33347
The High School Road bridge over I-70 (not shown) will also be closed for one weekend.

Some bridges require full closures of ramps that will be scheduled during overnight hours and weekends, when traffic volumes are lower. Planned closures include:

  • Eastbound I-70 and Ronald Reagan/Ameriplex Parkway ramp to Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Drive (Indianapolis International Airport)
  • Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Drive (Indianapolis International Airport) ramp to westbound I-70
  • Ronald Reagan Parkway ramp to westbound I-70
  • Eastbound I-70 ramp to northbound Ronald Reagan Parkway
  • Westbound I-70 ramp to southbound Ameriplex Parkway
  • Eastbound I-70 ramp to southbound Ameriplex Parkway
  • High School Road over I-70

Specific dates and detours for closures will be announced in advance and communicated to motorists via posted and electronic message signs. No closures will be scheduled during holiday weekends.

All work on the contract is expected to be complete by November.
