Flashing Yellow Arrows Coming to U.S.
35 and NewPorte Boulevard in LaPorte
Intersection
will receive new flashing yellow arrows on left-turn signals
LAPORTE COUNTY – The
Indiana Department of Transportation announces the activation of a new and
improved traffic signal and intersection in LaPorte. The signal at the entrance
to the Kroger grocery store on U.S. 35 in LaPorte has been relocated 100 feet
north to the intersection of U.S. 35 and NewPorte Boulevard. On Friday, October 21, INDOT signal technicians are
scheduled to activate the signal, which utilizes the new technology of a
flashing yellow arrow. This intersection will still act as the entrance to
Kroger and will serve as the entry point for future development in that area.
The intersection will receive new flashing
yellow arrows (FYA) on left-turn signals. FYA
have been shown to improve traffic flow and reduce waiting times at signals. Motorists
should expect to encounter temporary daytime lane restrictions in all
locations. Motorists should see the new signals in action Wednesday
morning, October 21.
Flashing yellow arrows
allow left-turning traffic to proceed after yielding the right-of-way to
oncoming traffic. The steady yellow left-turn arrow retains its standard
meaning that the signal is about to change to a steady red arrow, and drivers
should prepare to stop, or, if they have already entered the intersection, they
should complete the left turn when oncoming traffic has cleared.

is available on INDOT’s web site at www.in.gov/indot/3202.htm.
