State Road 28 Closes at U.S. 31 on July 19
State Road 28 will close for construction of a new interchange at U.S. 31 starting on or after Tuesday, July 19. State Road 28 access across U.S. 31 and direct access to and from State Road 28 at U.S. 31 will be unavailable.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contract with Rieth-Riley Construction allows for a closure limited to 120 days. Rieth-Riley will begin installing signs immediately after the Independence Day holiday to notify motorists of the road closure date.

Traffic during closure
During the closure of State Road 28, a signed detour will
direct highway traffic north to State Road 26 via State Road 29 and State Road
19. Local motorists are encouraged to
plan ahead and seek their best alternate routes.
At the same time State Road 28 is closed, U.S. 31 will be
reduced to one lane in each direction through the completion of the $10.8
million project. The speed limit will remain reduced to 50 mph through the work zone.
All new traffic configurations, including the new
interchange ramps and State Road 28 access over U.S. 31, are expected to open
in November.
About the project
INDOT has contracted Rieth-Riley Construction to build a new U.S. 31 interchange at State Road 28 in Tipton County. State Road 28 will be bridged over U.S. 31 and single-lane roundabouts will regulate ramp traffic.
