I-94 & U.S. 421
Interchange Ramps Temporarily Closed For Restoration
Crews to reconstruct pavement and add
upgrades to the interchange
LAPORTE COUNTY,
Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces ramps at the
I-94 interchange (Exit 34B Ramp) of U.S. 421 (Both U.S. 421 Ramps) will be
temporarily closed Friday May 20 through the end of June (Map and Detour
attached). Crews will be resurfacing the ramps and adding upgrades to the
entire interchange at that location.
The work schedule
is subject to change in the event of inclement weather. INDOT reminds motorists
to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction
zone.

The westbound I-94 exit (Exit 34B) to northbound US-421 will be
closed. To access Michigan City from WB I-94 the official detour will route
traffic to SR-49 (Exit 26A) where traffic will take two loop ramps which will
place traffic on eastbound I-94. Traffic will then take the 34B exit from
eastbound I-94 to enter Michigan City. The two following images show this
detour highlighted in green. ~11 miles
The southbound US-421
exit to eastbound I-94 will be closed. To access eastbound I-94, the official
detour will divert traffic onto westbound I-94 where traffic will take the same
double loop pattern at SR-49. This will place traffic in the proper direction
for eastbound I-94. The two following images show this detour highlighted in
blue.
The northbound US-421 exit to
westbound I-94 will be closed. To access westbound from I-94, the official
detour will divert traffic onto eastbound I-94 where traffic will continue to
the US-35 Northbound exit (Exit 40 B) where traffic will take two loop ramps
which will place traffic on westbound I-94. Traffic will then take be heading
in the proper direction on I-94 The two following images show this detour
highlighted in purple.
