INDOT Awards $8.2 Million Contract to Rebuild State Road 26

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded an $8.2 million contract to Milestone Contractors to rebuild State Road 26 in Jay County between State Road 1 and State Road 67, which will include the bridge over Brooks Creek and straightening the alignment of two curves at County Road 300 West.

Straightening the alignment of the highway will also change existing intersections in the area.

  • County Road 50 North and Division Road will intersect with State Road 26 on new alignments.
  • County Road 300 West will no longer intersect with State Road 26 and existing pavement between County Road 50 and Division Road will be removed.
  • The existing curve at the intersection of County Road 200 West and State Road 26 will be removed.

Road closed ahead

State Road 26 will be closed during construction to provide contractors with safe space to complete work as quickly as possible.  A signed detour will direct state highway traffic around the closure via State Road 67 and State Road 1.

Motorists with local destinations are encouraged to plan ahead and seek their best alternate routes. To maintain local access as much as possible, County Road 200 West will remain open throughout most of the project for north-south traffic crossing State Road 26. This access will be closed for up to 60 days sometime after June 1, 2016.

County Road 200 West will remain open throughout most of the project for north-south traffic crossing State Road 26. This access will be closed for up to 60 days sometime after June 1, 2016.

Specific dates will be announced after Milestone provides a project schedule.  All closures are expected to open to traffic before the end of November 2016.
