 Wabash Valley Correctional Facility
Announces Promotions

Carlisle, Ind. - Warden Vanihel at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) is proud to announce four staff members recently promoted to the rank of Correctional Sergeant. 

Utility Captain Mike Voigtschild said, "Each of these individuals has faced different challenges during their time at WVCF. The goal is that they share their experiences with those that work alongside them so that they can develop into leaders as well."

Sergeant Katie Watts began her career with the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) as a Correctional Officer at WVCF in July 2017. Since that time, she has gained a variety of experience working with Master Control, the A & O Unit, and other areas throughout the Facility. Sergeant Watts has received training as a Quick Response Team (QRT) member, a Restricted Housing Unit (RHU) officer, a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) member, a Certified Treatment Specialist (CTS), and a Field Training Officer. Her dedication to the Facility was recently recognized when she was awarded Officer of the Month in June 2021.

Sergeant Tyler Vaughn began his career with the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) as a Correctional Officer at WVCF in July 2016. Over the years he has worked several posts, however, the majority of his time he was assigned to the M Housing Unit (MHU) and P Housing Unit (PHU). Sergeant Vaughn has received training as a Quick Response Team (QRT) member and a Field Training Officer (FTO). In addition, he has been a member of the Facility's Emergency Squad (E-Squad) since early in his career and currently holds the position of 1st Squad Leader.

Payne, T.

Sergeant Tristan Payne began his career with the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) as a Correctional Officer at WVCF in March 2019. During that time he has worked several posts including, but not limited to, Master Control, South Control, Master Locations, and F Housing Unit (FHU). While assigned to FHU he gained valuable experience with the Recovery While Incarcerated (RWI) Program. Sergeant Payne has received training as a Quick Response Team (QRT) member, a Field Training Officer (FTO), and a Drug Screen Officer. He is also a member of the Situation Control (SITCON) Team. In addition, he is currently working to obtain his bachelor's degree in Criminology from Indiana State University.

Sergeant Aaron Jerrell began his career with the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) as a Correctional Officer at WVCF in January 1995. He has worked as a Correctional Officer and a Warehouse Clerk. His resume includes a vast amount of specialty training to include Foley-Belsaw where he became a locksmith, the Best School of Mechanical and Security Products, the Schlage Cylinder Service, and the Schlage L-Series Mortise Lock Service through Ingersoll Rand. He has been assigned as the Assistant Locksmith for several years where he has gained first-hand experience with the locking mechanisms throughout the Facility.
