Three Promoted to Correctional Sergeant

at the Rockville Correctional Facility

Rockville, Ind.
– Rockville Correctional Facility (RCF) Deputy Warden of Operations Stacey Milner is pleased to announce the promotions of three staff members to the rank of Correctional Sergeant.  All three of the new Sergeants, Zach Barker, Devon Tome, and Lucas Vandivier are ascending from Correctional Officer, the level at which they started at the Indiana Department of Correction and RCF.

Sergeants Barker, Vandivier, and Tome have all distinguished themselves through hard work, dedication, and the resolve to learn all they can about becoming professional correctional staff.  Each of them serves in several capacities in the facility integral to the development of themselves and others.  One such duty is that of Field Training Officer where they are responsible for helping the development of newly hired correctional staff easing their transition into a challenging yet rewarding career field.  All three Sergeants have obtained the requisite knowledge necessary to make them peer resources.  They have all taken advantage of cross training opportunities that allowed them to work nearly any post in the facility.

Sergeant Barker, who started his Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) career journey in January 2020, is a member of the Indiana National Guard; RCF’s elite Emergency Squad; and a Security Skills Adjunct Instructor.

Sergeant Tome, who joined the IDOC in October 2018, is a handgun trained Trip Officer responsible for the offsite transport of offenders ensuring public safety is always maintained.  He is also part of a specialized housing unit working closely with the offender population and programming initiatives that aids in enhancing prosocial thinking and behavioral skills.

Sergeant Vandivier, who embarked on his IDOC career in May of 2017, is also a Security Skills Adjunct Training Instructor.  In this role he is called upon to provide training to fellow staff ensuring safety is maintained inside the prison walls through identification and elimination of potential security threats.  He is also a handgun trained trip officer.

Deputy Warden Milner commented, “All of us congratulate these staff on their accomplishment, and wish them continued success in their new roles.”
