LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility
Graduates Twelve Students
LaPorte, Ind. Friday March 26th, 2021 - LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility is pleased to announce the graduation of twelve students from Promise Jr/Sr High School. These students have worked incredibly hard and overcome many challenges in order to accomplish this milestone.
Three students have earned their Core 40 Diploma, seven students have earned their Test Assessing Secondary Completion diploma (TASC) and two students have obtained their General Education diploma.
When asked to share their thoughts regarding this momentous occasion, the following are direct quotes for several students:
- "I can now go on to pursue my dreams"
- "I never thought I could do it, but I did and now I can do better in life."
- "The education staff allowed me to see that I could be successful"
- "The education staff are very patient with us and don't hold any of our mistakes against us."
- "I used the resources provided by the education staff and facility to work hard and earn my diploma, making the best of the time I had to be here."
- "Struggles turn into motivation, motivation turns into discipline, discipline turns into achievements and achievements turn into graduation!"

Principal Travis Anderson said, “I’m extremely proud of the 12 graduates and our education staff. They have all persevered through the unforeseen circumstances that were caused by the pandemic. Our small staff of eight dedicated educators consistently showed up for work, taught classes on the units, and individualized instruction for our students. As soon as the quarantine was lifted, students were eager to return to school so they could continue working towards their diplomas. Additionally, they were almost immediately tested in the TASC, ServSafe Food Handler Manager examination, and the I-Step. I am truly impressed by the unwavering commitment that these twelve students have shown in order to graduate today.”

Warden Smiley said, "It’s great to see these young women take advantage of the opportunities that have been given to them during a difficult time in their lives to help create a better future for themselves."
Promise Jr/Sr High School operates a fully accredited school within the Department of Education at the LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility, which currently houses 35 juvenile girls.
LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility congratulates our 12 graduates and wishes them all much success.
