Margie Wagner Retires After 27 Years of Service
Branchville, Ind. - Oakland City University and Site Coordinator Laura James, announced the retirement of Regional Coordinator Margie Wagner, after 27 years as a Correctional Educator. Oakland City staff and Branchville Correctional Facility (BCF) Administration met to bid happy retirement to Ms. Wagner after a distinguished career in Correctional Education.
Ms. Wagner began her career with Oakland City University and the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) in January 1992. Ms. Wagner said, "I wanted a career that was both challenging and meaningful." She found such a career in correctional education with the IDOC. Ms. Wagner was hired as a part-time classroom teacher at Branchville Correctional Facility (BCF). During her tenure, she taught Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Master Student Master Employee (MSME).

While teaching at BCF, Ms. Wagner continued her education eventually earning a Master's degree. After earning her degree, Ms. Wagner focused her career on Administration and Leadership. In 2010, while serving as Site Coordinator, Ms. Wagner supervised both Education departments at BCF and Madison Correctional Facility (MCF). Ms. Wagner’s grace, humility and leadership skills quickly captured the attention of her superiors and IDOC administration and earned her recognition and advancement.

In 2016, Ms. Wagner was promoted to Regional Coordinator. As Regional Coordinator, Ms. Wagner oversaw correctional education at BCF, MCF, Pendleton Juvenile Facility (JCU), and Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF). She oversaw programs for both adult and juvenile incarcerated persons housed in the IDOC facilities. Ms. Wagner's leadership has resonated across corrections making Education a priority and workloads manageable.
