A Season of Giving at the
South Bend Community Re-Entry Center

South Bend, Ind.
- Tis the season for giving. Amid these difficult times residents at the South Bend Community Re-Entry Center (SBCRC) recognized the need to give back to their local communities. They did so by partnering with Granger Community Church's Season of Giving celebration and Angel Tree gift giving program.

This was made possible the result of each of the men at the SBCRC making the financial commitment to donate a portion of their personal earnings to purchase gifts for children in need.  Months of planning and coordination helped make their efforts a success as evidenced by the number of toys they were able to purchase.

Warden Bowen commented, "These events the men took part in are something they will always remember".   Warden Bowen also shared many other acts of community service performed by the men. Such as making placemats for homeless men over Thanksgiving; sending Christmas cards to residents of serval community nursing homes; and early in the pandemic the men wrote hundreds of thank you cards to local first responders, inclusive of doctors, nurses and local police and fire departments. The men were also instrumental in making hundreds of face masks distributed throughout the community in the early days of the pandemic.  Bowen concluded, "The staff and residents of the re-entry center have made it a joint mission to stay connected to the communities to which they will soon return."

The spirit of the season inspired the men to also adopt three Angel Tree families to help brighten the holiday season for less fortunate families. Pictured to the right are festively wrapped packages ready for delivery before Christmas day.
