New Deputy Warden Appointed
to Indiana Women's Prison

Indianapolis, Ind - The Indiana Department of Correction is pleased to announce that effective Monday, November 2, 2020, Anthony D. Alston will assume the duties of Deputy Warden at the Indiana Women’s Prison (IWP) in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mr. Alston is a native of Gary, Indiana, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Administration, a master’s degree in Business Management, and a doctorate in Business Management and Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.  While attending the University of Phoenix, Mr. Alston was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success and attained Dean’s List honors for academic performance.

Mr. Alston's  initial management and leadership experiences can be traced back to 2008 when he served as a Squad Leader for the 713th Engineer Sapper Company, and also as a Platform Supervisor at Old Dominion Freight Line.

With more than 10 years of supervisory and management experience, Mr. Alston has also volunteered as an advocate for prison reform and played a substantial role in the federal clemency of Charles Duke Tanner, a promising undefeated light heavyweight boxer who participated in the Police Athletic League gym in Gary, Indiana.

Mr. Alston currently serves with the Indiana National Guard as an acting First Sergeant for Bravo Company BEB, 76th Infantry Brigade.  Over the course of his 25 years of military service he has been deployed five times with two tours in Iraq, two tours in Afghanistan, and one tour in the United States as an Observational Controller training soldiers for overseas deployment.  Mr. Alston also served as the Non Commissioned Officer in Charge  (NCOIC) for the Security Forces package during the COVID-19 pandemic.  He has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Valor, and the Bronze Star.
