Putnamville Gives "Pumpkins" to Talk About
Greencastle, Ind. - Putnamville Correctional Facility staff and offenders with the Horticulture program recently donated 251 pounds of mini pumpkins to school kids in the surrounding areas. The list of pumpkin beneficiaries included Deer Meadow Kindergarten class, Meridian Elementary, Gosport Daycare, and Owen county Lighthouse Daycare.
So far this year more than 6,456 pounds of food has been donated to churches, food pantries, the senior center and local food banks in and around Putnam County.
"I'm very proud of how the Horticulture Department has stepped up to make the garden a success each year" said Warden Zatecky. "It's rewarding to see the sense of pride the offenders have in their work and in the garden as a whole. Offenders are learning that hard work pays off, even more so when it benefits the community."
