Correctional Officer at Rockville Correctional Facility Promoted to Caseworker
Rockville, Ind. – Warden Julie Stout and the staff of Rockville Correctional Facility (RCF) congratulate Correctional Officer Sheri Bishop on her promotion to serve as a Correctional Caseworker.
Sheri began her career with Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) in October 2018 as a custody officer. As an officer she sought out various training opportunities and assignments at the facility, inclusive of being an offender transport officer and screening of offenders for disciplinary infractions. Seeking leadership opportunities Sheri also became a Field Training Officer (FTO). As a FTO Sheri was an integral part of mentoring new correctional officers and helped them apply their classroom training into real life situations.
Prior to joining RCF, Sheri spent 10 years with the Parke County Sentinel. Sheri commented, "To now be on the “other side” of a news story has been very insightful. It is easy to forget there are many people without good support systems with no one to lend them a hand. Many incarcerated people are in that situation and prison becomes that needed support system."
Her promotion to caseworker will help fill that gap so many offenders face. Caseworkers are the link between rehabilitation, re-entry, and the incarcerated offender. From the time an offender comes to RCF, it is the caseworker who places her into the programs and services she most needs. The caseworker is in contact with the courts, social services, and parole boards helping the offender prepare for a successful and long-lived re-entry. And when the release date arrives it is the caseworker who has confirmed the offender has a place to go home to.
Sheri acknowledges that along with the promotion comes a lot of hard work. But to that she said, “I’m ready for the challenge!”
Ms. Bishop began her caseworker duties on September 21, 2020.
