Staff Promotion
LaPorte, Ind.
The Indiana Department of Correction and Warden Smiley is pleased to announce the promotion of Michelle Battle to Lieutenant at LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility.
Michelle began her career on October 23, 1995 at Westville Correctional Facility. She has held many positions throughout her 20 years there, including officer, sergeant, and lieutenant. She has always been a person and supervisor to step up and help wherever she is needed. Michelle was also involved in the Employee Activity Participation Committee, in the capacity of Vice President.
In 2015 she left the state to try something else but she couldn’t stay away. She returned to the IDOC as an officer at Indiana State Prison and was there until she transferred to the girl’s facility in LaPorte in January 2018. She was subsequently promoted to Sergeant here in 2019.
Michelle has completed the IDOC Leadership Academy and the EEL academy as well as Sitcon and supervisory trainings. She also has her associate’s degree. She is truly an asset to the staff and the girls at the facility.
