Indiana Department of Corrections Team Enters Surviving the Color Fundraiser for Team of Mercy
Terre Haute, Ind.- Casework Manager Katie Fischer works at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF). She formed a team to participate in the Surviving the Color 5k Walk / Run fundraiser for the Team of Mercy organization. The team name was "IDOC Remembers." The 17 member team was comprised of both current and former IDOC staff, as well as their children. Participants walked in remembrance of those that have been lost to suicide.
When asked about the event Katie said, "I went to Former WVCF Warden Mr. Brown to request that the facility be allowed to participate in the Team of Mercy color run. I did so not only to help a great organization raise money, but also to bring awareness to suicide. When he agreed, I was very grateful! I enjoyed running & walking with my co-workers for a great cause. I am glad that we had this opportunity to honor and remember those we have lost. I am also thankful it showed others that if you are having thoughts of suicide there are resources and people willing to help!"
