MCF's Gene Cooper Recognized
Bunker Hill, Ind. - Miami Correctional Facility (MCF) Physical Plant Director Gene Cooper was honored recently with a Commissioner’s Coin for his work on the new MCF Staff Development Center. Staff moved into the new Staff Development Center this week after 15 months under construction.
The center is located in a portion of the facility’s warehouse. Cooper lead the facility’s maintenance staff in transforming 5,000 square feet of space into four classrooms, a computer lab, three offices and a break area. Prior to the move, MCF's training was mainly performed in a small three room building that was originally constructed when the former Grissom Air Force Base was an active air base.
Cooper started working for the state of Indiana in 1995 as a Maintenance Carpenter at the Logansport State Hospital. He transferred to MCF in January 2000 as a Maintenance Foreman and was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor in February 2007. He was promoted in December 2012 to Physical Plant Director.
From day one of the planning for the MCF Staff Development Center, Gene has taken a personal interest in the project, according to MCF Training Coordinator Charles Williams. “He has not only focused on the Physical Plant features of the project but also the "quality of life" concepts for the students and staff who will be using the center. Mr. Cooper dedicated countless hours planning, reviewing his plans and finding new and creative ways to make sure that the project could stay on target to meet the budget and all deadlines.”
