Putnamville Correction Facility’s Officer McClusky Receives Courage Award
Greencastle, Ind.—Putnamville Correctional Facility Deputy Wardens Phegley and Hartzell are proud to announce Correctional Officer Brian McCluskey was the recipient of Indiana Department of Corrections Courage Award and was also presented a Commissioner Coin.
Officer Brian McCluskey has been a valued team member over the course of events during the pandemic at the Putnamville Correctional Facility. One of Brian's duties is monitoring offenders who are quarantined. While performing this duty Brian made several suggestions which were incorporated into daily operations. Examples of suggestions included additional time for offenders to speak with their families on the phone or with their GTL tablets. He also helped securing movies for offenders to watch and helped streamline communication with other staff members. His suggestions helped lower the level of stress experienced by offenders as well as staff members.
The Courage Award recognizes members of the Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC) team who overcome fears, take risks, and go beyond expectations to maintain a safe facility environment. "Officer McClusky never shows fear, steps in where he is needed, and ensures precautions are being followed according to guidelines.” said Deputy Warden Hartzell. "His courage for volunteering to work in the unit, coupled with his professional attitude and outside of the box thinking has benefited the facility and staff at the Putnamville Correctional Facility. We are fortunate to have such an exceptional team member."
