New Castle Correctional Facility Offenders
Sew Over 16,000 Masks
New Castle, Indiana – With strong hope to lessen the spread of COVID-19, twenty- four PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve) offenders at the New Castle Correctional Facility (NCCF) donated their time to make 16,460 washable cotton masks. This was possible from the use of donated fabric and supplies. The two crews split shifts running eight sewing machines for sixteen hours a day. Every offender at NCCF and Heritage Trail Correctional Facility in Plainfield, Indiana received two masks. When released, the offenders take the masks with them. NCCF has maintained a surplus to ensure those coming in will also be issued two masks. Offenders are required to wear masks outside of their bed area. Staff are required to wear masks at all times.
Assistant Facility Administrator for Programs/Re-entry, Jennifer French, asked that these men be recognized for their dedication to the cause. She also reported that so far she has received three thank you notes from the crew members, one included this quote from Nathan Eldon Tanner - “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this Earth”.
